PSPU-Net for Automatic Short Axis Cine MRI Segmentation of Left and Right Ventricles

2020

[EN] Characterization of the heart anatomy and function is mostly done with magnetic resonance image cine series. To achieve a correct characterization, the volume of the right and left ventricle need to be segmented, which is a timeconsuming task. We propose a new convolutional neural network architecture that combines U-net with PSP modules (PSPU-net) for the segmentation of left and right ventricle cavities and left ventricle myocardium in the diastolic frame of short-axis cine MRI images and compare its results against a classic 3D U-net architecture. We used a dataset containing 399 cases in total. The results showed higher quality results in both segmentation and final volume estimati…

Automatic determination of aortic compliance with cine-magnetic resonance imaging - An application of fuzzy logic theory

2002

International audience; Abstract: RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES. Aortic compliance is defined as the relative change in aortic cross-sectional area divided by the change in arterial pressure. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a useful imaging modality for the noninvasive evaluation of aortic compliance. However, manual tracing of the aortic contour is subject to important interobserver variations. To estimate the aortic compliance from cine-MRI, a method based on fuzzy logic theory was elaborated. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Seven healthy volunteers and eight patients with Marfan syndrome were examined using an ECG gated cine-MRI sequence. The aorta was imaged in the transverse plane at the level o…

Prä- und postoperative Evaluation von linksventrikulären Herzspitzenaneurysmen mittels Cine-MRT

2001

Purpose: To demonstrate the usefulness of cine-MRI for the evaluation of apical left ventricular aneurysms (ALVA) and for prediction of the surgical outcome. Materials and Methods: We investigated 28 patients with ALVA, 13 of them additionally after aneurysmectomy at 1.5 T; 15 healthy volunteers served as normal controls. For cine-MRI k-space segmented FI-2D-GE sequences were used. Analysis comprised the calculation of cardiac volume indices, cardiac function, and percentual myocardial thickening (PMT). For prediction of surgical results we divided left ventricle into an aneurysmatic and a non-aneurysmatic part. The non-aneurysmatic part was assumed as the left ventricle after surgical remo…
